The British statesman Joseph Chamberlain addressed the English Parliament in 1898 and said, “I think that you will all agree that we are living in most interesting times. (Hear, hear.) I never remember myself a time in which our history was so full, in which day by day brought us new objects of interest, and, let me say also, new objects for anxiety. (Hear, hear.)”
Chamberlain’s sentiments remain true over 120 years later. Whether you’re in NYC, London, Singapore or Australia, each day brings many new social norms.
One of the most critical and important of these is our expanded global focus on sustainability, the environment and our planet. With over 200 million blogs dedicated to Mother Nature, it’s easy to see this as a worldwide revolution of sorts. More people than ever are inspired to use stainless steel straws, recycle their cardboard boxes, and use biodegradable products. But one area that is often overlooked is the waste caused by throwing out business furniture.
We at GOL were shocked by the dizzying amount of furniture for offices that are dumped in landfills each year—and we resolved to do our part to reduce the figure.
It’s estimated that last year over 10 million tons were deposited in landfills, generating countless greenhouse gasses and noxious emissions.
Every day in NYC, moving companies add to this problem by their focusing on profit alone. And to make matters worse, many still use “crusher trucks”’ that not only add to landfills, but belch out exhaust and pollution.
By utilizing LEED Certified Recyclers, coupled with our over 300 non-profit donation partners, our simple goal is to assure that none of our liquidated office furniture ever reaches a landfill.
In addition to providing eco-friendly furniture liquidation services, we have taken a number of simple yet impactful steps that further assist Mother Nature. All our business cards and any hard copies we send out are all printed on recycled papers, utilizing both sides of the page.
Any corrugated materials needed on the job will also be from recycled papers.
For any printed correspondence, we have chosen the font Century Gothic, which is part of the Sans Set Family. Fonts in this family exploit the least amount of ink—in fact, Century Gothic uses 30% less ink than Arial. And maybe most importantly, we are on the waiting list to repower 3 of our office furniture liquidation vehicles into clean, efficient commercial electric trucks.
We hope you can join GOL in making a difference because, “When Nature Wins, We All Win!”
