I constantly preach to anyone who will listen that in sales, timing is everything. And with a business like GOL, that means answering the phone even if its 8 pm, Saturday, Sunday or during the Super Bowl!!!
One lazy Sunday, the phone rang and I gave my standard answer, “Hello, May I help you?”
The caller took a second or two and said, “Oh I wasn’t expecting anyone to answer.”
I replied, “I wasn’t expecting your call but hey since I have you what can we do for you.”
Long story short, their organization had a nice sized liquidation, which I viewed on Monday morning. By COB Monday, she had the proposal. Tuesday morning, she awarded me the project.
Why? Besides me being so eloquent and charming, the two other people she reached out to hadn’t even returned the call and I already had her solution in her hands.
Little did I know, this was just the tip of the iceberg, and there was moving, more liquidation at another location, storage and more. All just awarded, no bid, no competition, no haggling about price.
Being in first and setting a precedent of customer satisfaction and expediency, all worked together to make this one cold call a big part of my 2024 business generation.
